About NexDetour
NexDetour is an a cappella power trio based in Dayton, Ohio with a repertoire that is an eclectic mix of rock, pop, soul, doo-wop, and gospel that appeals to all ages. Their entertaining concerts feature dynamic harmony, audience interaction, and a fully choreographed stage show honed by over 25 years of experience weaving harmonies together in Fourth Avenue. Jim, Scott, and Ryan have shared the stage with The Beach Boys, The Temptations and Three Dog Night.
Jim Brown
After getting an early start in musical theater in high school, Jim continued his vocal studies while obtaining a finance degree from Wright State University. He held soloist and section leader positions in numerous Dayton-area choruses and made appearances with the Air Force Band of Flight and the Dayton United Lutheran Chorale. After completing his MBA, Jim returned to musical theater and has won multiple DayTony and Rodin awards for acting, directing, and set design. Notable stage credits include Lord Farquaad in Shrek, The Musical, Jerry in The Full Monty, Molokov in Chess, The Musical, and Caiaphas in Jesus Christ Superstar. Directoral credits include Legally Blonde, Schoolhouse Rock Live!, and Back to the 80’s. Other experiences comprise short films (Forever’s End and Oasis), radio commercials (The Hobby Shop, Gigahobby.com, and others), and podcasts (The Hidden People, and Echo Protocol). Jim is the President of Springboro Community Theatre in Springboro. He is a CFA charterholder and equity research analyst, and is the Investment Committee Chair for CFA Society Dayton.
Scott Dawson
After completing a Bachelor of Arts in Music from Wright State University, Scott was hired to perform with the Dayton Opera in productions such as Tosca, Il barbiere di Siviglia, Faust, and many others. Scott also has done professional musical theatre with the Human Race Theatre Company of Dayton. As a concert soloist, he has performed with members of the Dayton Philharmonic Orchestra in the Seasholes Concert Series at The First Baptist Church of Dayton and was a featured recitalist for The Dayton Art Institute’s Twilight Concert Series. Along with extensive experience as a songwriter, arranger, artistic director, and producer, Scott is an established vocal instructor who was hired by legendary artist manager, Johnny Wright, to prepare a singer on his label for the Radio Disney Tour. In addition to coaching singers for Kings Island’s Pop and Country shows, he was an adjunct faculty member of Wright State University teaching voice in the Theatre Arts Department for eight years and was a co-founder and taught voice for Wright State University’s Musical Theatre and Acting Preparatory Program (MAPP). His love of the arts extends into visual art. Scott is owner of DawsonCreativity and is an Associate Professor and Coordinator of Graphic Design and New Media at Clark State Community College. His passion for arts education resulted in him being honored as a Champion of Change in Arts Education at the White House.
Ryan Holway
Ryan’s musical beginnings were rooted in instrumental music with an emphasis on the clarinet. He distinguished himself as a three-time recipient of first place honors in the Young Musicians Talent Competition and was 1st chair clarinet for two years in the Columbus Symphony Cadet Orchestra. At that time, Ryan also became involved in vocal music and was awarded membership in the Ohio All-State Choir. His passion for singing continued with roles in musical theater: Oklahoma (Will Parker) and Fiddler on the Roof (Constable). After majoring in vocal performance at Wright State University, Ryan was a professional soloist and chorister with St. Paul’s Episcopal Church and First Baptist Church of Dayton. Ryan has a Certificate of Audio Recording Engineering from the International College of Broadcasting and a degree in Civil Engineering from Sinclair Community College. He also fronts the all-original, Dayton-based rock band, Seven Stone Sacrifice. In addition to singing, Ryan is an accomplished songwriter, arranger, and producer.

Lydia’s Lullabies
Scott composes many of the arrangements and originals we perform in NexDetour. Lydia’s Lullabies is a heartfelt album of a Dad sharing his faith with his daughter that provides some of the gospel songs we sing. Half of the proceeds benefit the Dayton Gospel Mission.
